Teenage hero rewarded for his life-saving actions

A TEENAGE hero who saved a man’s life after finding him unconscious in the street was this week handed an award in recognition of his actions.

Peter Townsend, 14, of Spa Grove, Lupset was cycling along Snapethorpe Road last August when he discovered Mick Lawson, 47, lying in a pool of blood on the pavement.

Peter immediately leapt off his bike and after checking Mr Lawson over, he tilted his head back and put him in the recovery position.

Mr Lawson had been involved in an incident which left him with a fractured skull and paramedics later credited the teenager’s quick-thinking actions as saving his life.

Peter picked up his first aid skills through a course organised by Newmillerdam Karate Club, which he attends every week. …
