Grading System
Like most martial arts Karate uses a belt system to represent a students rank, here is a guide to show the belts we use and the minimum training requirements to achieve each belt. Gradings are held every 3 months and students that have trained and reached the required level will have the opportunity to grade to the next level.
| Grade | Belt Colour | Minimum Training Time |
|---|---|---|
| 8th Kyu (Red Belt) | 3 months regular training | |
| 7th Kyu (Yellow Belt) | 3 months regular training from red belt | |
| 6th Kyu (Orange Belt) | 3 months regular training from yellow belt | |
| 5th Kyu (Green Belt) | 3 months regular training from orange belt | |
| 4th Kyu (Blue Belt) | 3 months regular training from green belt | |
| 3rd Kyu (Purple Belt) | 3 months regular training from blue belt | |
| 2nd Kyu (Brown Belt) | 3 months regular training from purple belt | |
| 1st Kyu (Brown Belt Gold Tag) | 3 months regular training from brown belt | |
| 1st Dan (Black Belt) | 12 months regular training from gold tag | |
| 2nd Dan (Black Belt) | 3 years regular training from 1st Dan | |
| 3rd Dan (Black Belt) | 3 years regular training from 2nd Dan | |
| 4th Dan (Black Belt) | 4 years regular training from 3rd Dan |
From 4th Dan 1 year of regular training is added at each level so 5 years for 5th Dan, 6 years for 6th Dan and so on.
